Reviewing NINELESS A-Control Serum: Does This Serum Work for Oily Skin and Hyperpigmentation?

What is hyperpigmentation? Hyperpigmentation is defined as the common condition that makes certain areas of the skin appear darker than others. Today’s focus will be: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). This occurs after you’ve succumbed to your intrusive thoughts and popped that pimple, resulting in discoloration at the irritated area.

Today’s post will focus on the NINELESS A-Control 10% Azelaic Acid Serum said to help with diminishing the look of hyperpigmentation, control oil production, and reduce acne breakouts.

  • For a little background I have oily skin and have dealt with acne since very young, so my experience with the serum will likely differ with yours. However it is still great to hear the opinions of others when looking to find new additions to your skincare routine.
  • My main criteria for rating this serum includes: effectiveness in oil production management, reduction of hyperpigmentation, and irritation levels.

Product: NINELESS A-Control 10% Azelaic Acid Serum PRICE:

PRICE: $13

Key ingredients: Azelaic acid, niacinamide, snail mucin

Said to be suitable for: acne-prone, sensitive, combo, or oily skin

Pros:
Serum contains 10% Azelaic Acid which is an incredible ingredient for reducing the look of hyperpigmentation, treating acne, and redness. NINELESS has formulated this serum to be vegan, cruelty-free, lightweight, and suitable for all skin types.
Cons:
Sensitive skin users may experience slight irritation due to minor fragrance as well as the inclusion of Azelaic Acid as a main ingredient in the serum. It may also cause sensitivity to sunlight.

Whenever I search for new skincare products, I always look up reviews and videos where people talk about how the product affected their skin and how it feels. I considered feedback of the serum reviews from people who said that their skin became very sensitive to the azelaic acid in the serum, causing more hyperpigmentation. However, many others reported a visible reduction in redness and improvement in skin texture, along with satisfaction with the serum’s consistency and price. The serum was also highly praised for its clean formula and for leaving the skin smooth and hydrated. Taking all these reviews into account, I decided to go ahead and buy the serum.

  1. First impression

I first started using this serum at the beginning of December into mid February. Immediately I was very glad to see that my skin was not irritated with the serum as I’m prone to redness. The serum was more on the liquidy side–most likely due to the snail mucin ingredient– and was so lightweight, I loved how fast it absorbed into my skin. There was a slight fragrance but it was hardly noticeable. The following morning I woke up with no irritation and my skin felt more or less the same as it did prior to starting the serum.

  1. Application

The serum came in dropper form making it extremely easy to apply to my fingertips, onto my face. The dropper goes back into the bottle smoothly so it is very simple and easy to use.

  1. Results

The results did not come as quick as I hoped but it is expected considering I was trying to get rid of slight hyperpigmentation that has existed on my face dating months back. Within the three month period, I did notice a slight lightening of my spots but it wasn’t anything drastic. For the “soothing redness” factor of the serum I can’t say I noticed a big difference in the occasional redness I get on my cheeks. I also felt as though it lacked a good oil controlling component to the serum since it didn’t lessen the appearsnce of oiliness on my skin. I was rooting for it to be an all in one serum due to its key ingredients, but I feel it was more so focused on the evening skin tone effect and not much of the other skincare benefits the brand said it could give. However, this would be an amazing serum for those who have normal to combo skin with minimal uneven skin tone and don’t mind the wait since it’s affordable, easy to use, and non-irritating. In the long run I do see this serum being helpful in evening my spots but for someone like me who is impatient and would prefer to see faster results that simultaneously help my oiliness, I just don’t see it as a future repurchase.
